Won-Byung Choi, chairman of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation in Korean, was elected as president of ICAO at the ICAO General Meeting at Geneva, Switzerland in on November 18, 2009.
He joined the agricultural cooperative movement in 1972 and had served as the president of the Angang agricultural cooperative in his hometown from 1986 until he was elected as chairman of the NACF in 2007.
He has been highly interested in strengthening the competitiveness of agricultural industry of Korea, especially in the rice industry. Choi’s service as the president of the NACF Rice Processing Complex Business Operation Council had been honored and he received the Meritorious Achievement Award from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in 1987, later awarded by the President of Korea in 2000 followed by the Suktop Industrial Medal in 2003. He was first elected as a member of ICA Board in 2008 and re-elected in 2009 at ICA General Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
