The International Co-operative Agricultural Organisation (ICAO) is the democratic organisation representing agricultural co-operatives and farmers world-wide. The ICAO, founded in 1951, is a sectoral organisation of the ICA.    

UN proclaims 2012 International Year of Co-operative
The ICAO is pleased to announce the adoption of the UN resolution, "Co-operatives and social development" which proclaims 2012 International Year of Co-operatives. The resolution A/RES/64/136) passed on 18 December 2009 by consensus was proposed by 55 UN Member States. It recognises that the co-operative business model is a major factor in realising economic and social development and calls on governments, international institutions, co-operatives and other stakeholders to support the development and growth of co-operatives worldwide See ICA press release. >>>


New Secretary General Sang-Cheol Kim
Dr. Chan-Ho Choi, former secretary general, is now regional director of the ICA Asia Pacific Regional Office at New Delhi, India. >>>


Won-Byung CHOI, chairman of the NACF, was unanimously elected as president at the 2009 ICAO General Meeting on November 18, in Geneva Switzerland. Four vice presidents for regions were elected; Hiroshi Tsuchiya (Asia, Japan) ,Tom Tibamvenda (Africa, Uganda), Americo Utumi (America, Brazil), Eugen Tomte (Europe, Norway). Two executive committee members were appointed; G.N. Saxena (Asia, India), Cafer Yuksel (Europe, Turkey). >>>

 ICAO Seminar on Climate Change and Agricultural Cooperatives
  ICAO organized the seminar on the theme of Climate Change and Agricultural Cooperatives in line with the agenda of 2009 ICA General Assembly on climate change. Experts from the international institutions and member organization made presentations on impact of climate change and cooperatives’ responses. 
 2009 ICAO General Meeting in Geneva, Switzerland
  Around 70 representatives from 22 member organizations participated in the 2009 General Meeting and elected president, vice presidents and executive members. President Choi strongly expressed that he will endeavor to revitalize the ICAO and agricultural cooperative movement around the globe and asked member organizations for active participations 
 ICAO & NCC Conference
  ICAO co-organized the Conference in conjunction with National Cooperative Council of Poland on the Challenges and Opportunities of Agricultural Cooperatives in Transition Economies on Mar. 24~25, 2009. Speakers from both East and Central European countries and Asian countries who had been through planned economies shared their experiences and deliberated their opportunities in the market economies.
